Disabled Persons Freedom Pass

Disabled persons Freedom Pass gives free travel on:

  • most public transport in London, 24 hours a day including the underground, London Overground, Docklands Light Railway and Croydon Tramlink.
  • most National Rail services within the London area - after 9.30am on weekdays, all day on weekends and public holidays
  • local bus services in the rest of England between 9.30am and 11pm Monday - Friday, all day on weekends and public holidays

If the pass is used on National Rail beyond the Greater London area, the extra onward cost must be paid before boarding the train.

Who can apply?

You can apply if you live in the borough of Camden. You will need to provide proof of address.

You may be eligible if you:

  • are blind or partially sighted
  • are profoundly or severely deaf
  • are without speech
  • have a disability, or have suffered an injury, which has had an effect on your ability to walk
  • don’t have arms or have a long-term loss of the use of both arms
  • have a learning disability
  • would have your application for a driving licence refused for reasons other than because of drug or alcohol misuse

You’ll automatically qualify if you already qualify for:

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and score 8 points or more in the 'moving around' or ‘communications’ element
  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement
  • Certificate of Visual Impairment (CVI)

You must provide all the relevant pages of the PIP benefit letter.

If approved, Your pass will be sent to you within 7 to 10 working days. If we need additional information we’ll contact you.

Face to face sessions

Every Tuesday the Concessionary Travel Department will be holding face-to-face sessions at two venues in the borough.  A session will be held at 5 Pancras Square, Kings Cross in the ground floor reception area between 10am-4pm.

There will be an additional face-to-face session held at Queens Crescent Library, 165 Queen's Crescent NW5 4HH, 11am-4pm.

During these sessions you will be able to submit an online application form, provide documents to support your application, make enquiries on an existing application.

To guarantee to see the Concessionary Travel Department you can book a session time by contacting the Contact Camden Team on 020 7974 6435, or alternatively you can drop in at either venue without a booking.

Passes issued by other London councils

You will need to complete a new application if your pass is issued by another London council. If you automatically qualify, you will need to provide a copy of your entitlement letter dated within the last 12 months.
