Wayne - Camden Careers
Wayne's Story
I joined Camden on a six-month contract and 10 years later, I’m still here.
I came to Camden from the private sector on a six-month fixed-term contract. At the time, I did not know where it would lead, but I quickly realised this was somewhere different.
Ten years on, I am still here - and I now work as Resourcing Manager, having secured a permanent role along the way. That says a lot about Camden as an organisation. It is a place where people are given opportunities to grow, where talent is recognised, and where you are supported to keep developing.
I have always enjoyed my time at Camden, but what has kept me here is the people. There is a real sense of purpose, generosity and commitment. People care deeply about the work, about our communities, and about each other.
No two years have ever been the same.
One of the things I have learnt in my time here is that you never quite know what is around the corner.
I have been involved in local and national emergencies that have shown just how important public service is. That has included supporting the response to the last-minute evacuation of the Chalcots Estate following the tragic events at Grenfell Tower, and being part of the emergency response during Covid, helping to redeploy staff into essential services across London.
Those moments were challenging, but they also showed me Camden at its best - people stepping up, working together, and doing whatever was needed to support residents and services when it mattered most.
Inclusion is not an add-on here - it is part of the job.
My role is to help make sure Camden recruits in a fair and inclusive way, and to keep challenging ourselves to do better.
That means constantly reviewing how we recruit, looking at what works and what needs to change, and finding new ways to make inclusion part of every stage of the process. Whether that is improving candidate experience, reducing bias, widening access or supporting managers to recruit more inclusively, the aim is always the same, to make sure fairness and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do.
Camden does not stand still. We are always asking how we can improve, what more we can do, and how we can make our processes work better for everyone.
I still feel proud to be here.
After 10 years, I can honestly say I still enjoy working here.
Camden is ambitious, inclusive and full of people who want to make a difference. It is a place where you can grow, where your voice matters, and where the work you do has real impact.
For me, that is what has made Camden such a rewarding place to build a career - and why I still feel excited to be part of it.
