Jerrie - Camden Careers
Jerrie's Story
Camden is where I’m from. I live here, went to school here and I was born here.
Camden is my local council, and coming to work here was a great move. Through my apprenticeship, I was able to get a qualification that’s equivalent to two A-Levels. Now it’s my job to make sure the police, health organisations and Camden Local Authority are working together to keep children in our borough safe.
My role allows me to see how much Camden does for children in the borough – especially through our work with communities to keep children safe. The Camden Plan plays a big part in what we do and it’s great to know that we’re impacting the lives of children here.
I don’t think I would be where I am today without hard work or without people at Camden encouraging me.
The support I’ve been given by colleagues and senior leaders has been phenomenal. But it’s really up to you to make the most of it and get noticed. I certainly did, which led me to apply for my current role.
Camden’s in a new era. It’s a lot more agile and I often work in different locations.
I’m flexible to meet the needs of my role, and in return Camden gives me the flexibility to enjoy a great work-life balance, stay active and have time to do all the things I enjoy. As a young woman, it’s empowering to know that if I choose to have children, I won’t have to give up working here.
I love the vibe here. Everyone’s really chatty and friendly, and everyone respects each other.
You’re pushed to think outside of the box, and we always work together to find a solution. For people on the outside, Camden’s quite rebellious. For me, it’s the norm.
If you're thinking of joining Camden, go for it. Work hard by putting the effort in. Prove yourself. People will notice.
