Strategic panel
Strategic panel
Once you apply for pre-application planning advice, you can also request for your proposal to be seen by the Strategic Panel. It is for schemes of strategic importance such as:
- proposals for more than 100 residential units
- 5000sqm of non-residential floorspace
- tall buildings
- Who is on the Strategic Panel
The Strategic Panel will generally consist of:
- Cabinet Member with responsibility for planning (Chair)
- Leader of the Council (only on the most significant strategic proposals such as Euston)
- Cabinet Member with responsibility for transport and sustainability
- Chair of the Planning Committee
- Heritage Champion
- other Cabinet members as required depending on the nature of the proposals being reported
What the strategic panel does
The Strategic Panel meeting will involve a presentation by the developer. Then the Panel can ask questions but not express formal views or engage in debate.
The fee for a Strategic Panel is £2,763.34.
What the Strategic Panel is for
- helping panel members to understanding complex proposals and their strategic and planning implications
- providing a forum for Members to consider developers’ perspectives
- Providing a forum for developers to understand some of the issues that may be important to us
- to give Panel members a high-level strategic involvement without compromising any role they may play as decision-makers
The strategic panel also allows panel members to provide their provisional input or steer by:
- highlighting how proposals fit with our wider policy aspirations
- identifying aspects where proposals may not be policy compliant
- giving their opinion on how competing or contentious issues could be balanced
