What is a Family Group Conference?
A family group conference (FGC) is a family meeting where families make plans and decisions about a child or adult.
An FGC is organised and run by an independent co-ordinator. ‘Family’ includes the child or adult concerned, parents, extended family, friends and community who are concerned and care about the child or adult.
The co-ordinator provides information and facilitates conversation but does not make any decisions for the family. At the FGC, the family produce a plan during private family time, of how to meet the needs of the child or adult, with their family around them.
In Camden we believe that the process must be well matched to meet the needs of communities living and working in Camden. Our FGC coordinators reflect the diversity within the borough so they can easily speak with and relate to our Camden residents.
We have continued to grow the membership of our Family Advisory Board (FAB), which is made up of FGC family members who have had Family Group Conferences. The FAB meets regularly to add to the growth of the FGC service.
