Dog Control and Dog Mess Public Space Protection Order
We're taking action against irresponsible dog owners in Camden.
Under our Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) the police and authorised Council officers can give a £100 fine or £1000 if prosecuted to irresponsible dog owners who do not clean up after their dog or who do not control their dog.
Dogs must also be kept on a lead in Hampstead Cemetery.
The PSPO applies to streets, housing estates and parks and green spaces in Camden. It doesn’t apply in parks not managed by Camden, for example Hampstead Heath, Regent’s Park or Primrose Hill.
People who are registered as blind or deaf, or with a disability affecting mobility, dexterity or coordination are exempt from the PSPO.

Dog Mess
Dog mess is unpleasant and a danger to health if left on the streets. Do the right thing and clean up after your dog.
Owners who do not pick up and dispose of their dog’s mess responsibly could receive an on-the-spot fine of £100 or £1000 if prosecuted. This includes leaving bagged dog mess on the street, hanging from a branch or anywhere else that’s not a bin.
Any litter bin will do: bag and bin dog mess and dispose of it in any of our 1,500 litter bins.

Dog Control
Dogs taken onto public streets in Camden must be kept under control, whether on or off the lead, and not cause damage, distress or harm to people or other dogs, animals or trees.
Dogs should not be out on their own and should wear a name tag with the owner’s name and address.
You could receive a £100 on-the-spot fine if you fail to put a dog on a lead if requested by our education and enforcement, parks or monitoring teams.
Dogs must be kept on a lead in Hampstead Cemetery.
