Connecting Camden is a network of projects to improve connectivity and tackle digital exclusion in the borough.

Improving phone coverage and wireless broadband
We rent some of our council-owned rooftops to mobile network operators and wireless broadband providers to install telecoms equipment. This equipment is safe and does not interfere with other electronic devices.
The Town and Country Planning Order 2015 allows for certain buildings to have telecoms equipment installed without the need for planning permission. This reduces delays and disruption to residents and businesses.
Income generated from leasing our rooftops goes towards maintaining Camden’s council homes.
Improving broadband speed
We’re working with broadband companies to install new fibre optic connections to our council blocks. This means that estate residents have a choice of providers and access to some of the fastest broadband speeds available.
A better digital connection means:
- easier access to education, employment opportunities and services
- improved health and wellbeing
- support for local businesses
Currently, 80% of the borough has access to full fibre and we're working to extend this coverage. Community benefits include:
- apprenticeship opportunities through providers' schemes
- affordable broadband tariffs for low-income residents
- job opportunities as part of the rollout programme
- free fibre connections for TRA and community halls
- 3 years digital skills support for Camden communities
