Building Safety Fund

This is the improved Camden website. Tell us what you think.

What is the Building Safety Fund?

In March 2020, the Government announced a £1 billion Building Safety Fund for the removal, repair or replacement of facades and other materials (including rain screens, decorative finishes and external wall insulation) on residential buildings over 18m tall.

We have identified that all residential buildings on the Cromer Street Estate are over 18m tall and meet the criteria to bid for government funding for facade repairs and replacement.

Due to the large costs involved with the government bid, we have asked the Leader of the Council for approval.

The Leader will make a decision on Wednesday 14 October 2020.

Cromer Street Estate

If the funding bid is agreed by the Leader of the Council and our Cromer Street Estate blocks are accepted as eligible by the government, there will be a formal application phase for each block in which we will bid for funding.

The blocks this applies to at Cromer Street are:

  • Glynde Reach
  • Bramber
  • Greatcroft
  • Peperfield
  • Hollisfield
  • Mulletsfield
  • Chadswell
  • Northiam
  • Bedefield
  • Sandfield
  • Gatesden

We have been working closely with the London Fire Brigade and our own fire safety experts and all of these blocks are safe.

We want to ensure our council homes meet the highest standards of safety, so it is important we look at providing a better standard than is currently in place.

Bidding for the Building Safety Fund

We have already contacted residents in all of the Cromer Street blocks that we consider eligible for funding. If our bids are successful, we will further inform residents at the individual blocks and prepare for the works when the funding is available from the government.

If any bids are not successful, we will look into other options for delivering the works.

Our programme of fire risk assessments will continue across the borough as well as our internal fire safety works, including installing smoke alarms and fire doors, emergency lighting and signs to keep our council homes safe.

Will my block be registered for funding?

If you live in a tall block above 18m which has not been registered for funding, this is because it does not have a facade that needs work.
