Camden’s provision for young people
The Alexandra Centre is Camden’s provision for young people aged 16 to 25 with profound and multiple or severe learning difficulties. Some have complex autism and/or physical difficulties.
The centre opened in September 2015 for 20 young people. It is in a newly-refurbished building in the heart of the Alexandra and Ainsworth estate, South Hampstead. The number of students on roll has increased since then and rose to around 45 to 50 young people in 2018.
The centre is being run in by Westminster Kingsway College. This is part of Camden’s plan to improve the life chances and choices of young people with learning disabilities.
Short breaks
There are seven short breaks units on the site of the Alexandra Centre for respite provision. The aim is to help people with a learning disability develop independent and semi-independent living skills.
